This 1911 illustration by Walter Crane shows Percival, a knight of King Arthur's Round Table, questioning Sir Owen. Arthurian legend centers on King Arthur of Britain. His sword, known as Excalibur, was given to him by the Lady of the Lake. Excalibur was said to have been made on the Isle of Avalon and symbolized the responsibility of power. However, also according to legend, Arthur, King Uther Pendragon's illegitimate son, showed his royal blood by drawing a sword from a stone.
