The Gippsland Water Dragon is the southern subspecies of the Eastern Water Dragon which found typically along streams and watercourses up the eastern coast of Australia. In Canberra it is the largest lizard commonly seen; at up to 90 cm long head to tail. A large population occurs in the city at the Australian National Botanic Gardens, in and around rock gardens and water features. Best spots in the sun are always claimed by the largest individuals, especially the more colourful males. Will sometimes scavenge under the tables at the cafe!
