Kaloula pulchra Gray, 1831

It is a nocturnal and fossorial species, breeding in small pools, usually seasonal rain pools, or ponds. It can burrow or climb into shrubby trees.

Medium sized.

Skin finely granular with some pastular tubercles; skin of venter, chin and underside of thigh granulated.Dorsum dark brown; a yellowish orange dorsolateral band, edged brown band, on either side, extending from the back of the eye to groin; a distinct mid-dorsal line;venter yellowish.

It is a species commensal with humans that rapidly colonizes urban habitats, usually seasonal rain pools, or ponds. It can burrow or climb into shrubby trees.

Found inwater logged paddy fields, swamps at degraded evergreen forest edges, in ponds with extensive aquatic vegetation, and around human habitation. During April-June, calling aggregations of Kaloula pulchra could be seen; often climb tree; fossorial in habit.

This species is generally quite common throughout most of its range.

It is collected for consumption in many places, but this does not appear to have a significant impact on its populations. It is sometimes found in the international pet trade but at levels that do not currently constitute a major threat
