Description

Distribution: It is widely distributed in low to mid-elevations (up to 3000ft) of Indian Subcontinent except far north-east regions. Scalation: Usually 9-10 supralabials, usually any 2-3 of 4th to 7th supralabials in contact with eyes, loreal. Dorsal scales in 23-27 mid-body rows, majorly smooth but very weakly keeled on 2-4 vertebral rows of posterior body. Morphology: It is a medium-large sized snake that grows up to 180cm. Newborn individuals are 25cm. Its upper body is brown or tan with whitish edges of most scales. From the posterior of the neck series of bands containing black and white colour run along the body which becomes faint posteriorly, replaced by broad stripes of brown or tan colour on top and chocolate brown or blackish-brown on sides. Its underside is pearl white and ventral scales are usually edged with grey colour on the side edges. Its head is elongated, slender, not depressed and slightly broader than the neck. Characteristic black parallel markings are present on the nape which help in differentiating it from other Trinkets of its range. Its eyes are of medium size and bear rounded pupils.
