Description
A plant with a deep taproot, very variable.
Used in herbal medicine as an important plant to cleanse the digestive system after the heavier food consumed during the winter months.
Flowers
Flowers consists of dense, yellow ray florets.
Flower stalks are hollow and contain a milky substance (latex).
Leaves
Pinnatisect leaf is deeply lobed, almost to the central midrib. Rosette, lobes almost to central midrib, sometimes serrated.
Fruits Seeds
Achene: a cluster of ribbed, 1-seeded fruit with fluffy hairs.
Edible
Leaves: rich in minerals and vitamins. Roots: as a coffee substitute.
Medical
Leaves: stimulate the secretion glands, cleanse and improve function of the digestive system.
