Guidelines for the surveillance of congenital rubella syndrome in the Western Pacific Region

Overview

Congenital rubella syndrome (‎CRS)‎, a constellation of birth defects, can result from rubella cases among susceptible pregnant women. To achieve the regional goal of rubella elimination, it is important for countries to establish CRS surveillance to quantify the most serious consequences of rubella infection and identify high-risk groups while complementing rubella surveillance.

This regional guidance aims to support countries in planning, implementing, and evaluating impactful and sustainable CRS surveillance systems. It provides a range of options and strategic considerations to guide the design and implementation of CRS surveillance that can achieve country-specific objectives and quality standards.
