Ukrainian Fashion Week

Ivan Frolov is beloved here in Ukraine. Like Jean Gritsfeldt, Frolov thinks big in terms of concept and location. For the past several seasons, he has focused on Ukraine in the late 1990s and early 2000s. This season, he even gave his setting a time-travel treatment and staged his show at one of the largest clubs in Kiev during the early aughts, which has since become a space for Hillsong Church (a Pentecostal mega-church). In addition, Frolov cast well-known models from the same era to walk the show.

Frolov‘s clothes offer up the same excitement. Still abiding the trends of the millennium, he re-created the JNCO jean silhouette in a metallic gold fabric. Another cheeky piece was a baby pink corseted pullover with a hood. The star-power standout was a shimmering slip dress patched in rhinestones. Given the flashiness, one wouldn’t be hard-pressed to think that Frolov’s clothes have some celebrity appeal. Rumor has it a very well-known entertainer—and her stylist—ordered from the designer several times but has yet to wear anything in public. Let’s see if she sports something anytime soon. It will surely give Frolov his much-deserved big break.
