Young Euro Classic 2024

The Orquestra Sinfônica Jovem de Goiás (OSJG) from the mid-west of Brazil has geared its program to composers who capture the attitude to life and rhythms of people from the countries of the South American continent in their orchestral works.

Particularly well-known is Heitor Villa-Lobos, who in his Bachianas Brasileiras created a fascinating connection between the revered Johann Sebastian Bach and the rich dance traditions of Brazil.

The ballet “Estancia”, from which the Argentinian Alberto Ginastera has put together an impressive suite, is just as full of temperament.

The Berlin festival audience can also look forward to the 19-year-old violinist Guido Sant’Anna, who became the first South American ever to win the renowned Fritz Kreisler Competition in Vienna in 2022. He will perform a violin concerto by the Brazilian composer Hekel Tavares, who is very familiar with the folk music of his homeland.
