Italian legend Filippo Inzaghi reveals his one major footballing regret… not playing more with Swede star Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Pair played together for one season at AC Milan, but a serious knee injury to Inzaghi seriously limited their time together

ITALIAN legend Filippo Inzaghi has revealed his one footballing regret: Not playing more with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The pair actually played together at AC Milan for two seasons between 2010 and 2012, when Ibrahimovic joined the San Siro ranks on loan, before eventually making his move permanent.

Yet in a cruel blow for Inzaghi, he suffered a major knee injury in what proved to be his penultimate year as a professional footballer that ruled him out for the rest of the year.

The two-time Champions League winner, 43, suffered a cruciate ligament and meniscus damage in his left knee which all but ended his career.

And now Inzaghi, who netted both goals as AC Milan beat Liverpool 2-1 in the 2007 Champions League final, says his only real regret was missing out on the chance of lining up with now-Manchester United striker Ibrahimovic.

Three-time Serie A winner Inzaghi - who now manages Venezia in the third tier of Italian football - said: "We’re friends off the field, and he’s an excellent player, very unselfish.

"We have different qualities that could have been complementary, which may have worked perfectly.

"But I seriously injured my knee during the 2010-11 season.

"Yes, not having played more with Zlatan is the biggest regret of my career."

Zlatan, 34, only stayed at Milan until Inzaghi retired, moving to Paris Saint-Germain in 2012 where he won four Ligue 1 titles in four years before his free move to Manchester United this summer.
