Portsmouth's manager, Avram Grant, could leave the club just days after their FA Cup final defeat at Wembley after opening talks with West Ham United.
The London club, looking for a quick appointment after sacking Gianfranco Zola, were given permission to talk to the Israeli by Portsmouth's administrator.
However, reports suggest any official contract offer to Grant may be delayed until after West Ham have also spoken to Blackburn Rovers' Sam Allardyce, Blackpool's Ian Holloway and Cardiff City's Dave Jones. Holloway and Jones face each other in Saturday's Championship play-off final.
Any deal for Grant could be complicated by issues around compensation, but with the Israeli having gone unpaid for several months due to Portsmouth's financial plight, he believes he will be free to move without a fee being paid.
Meanwhile, West Ham's co-owners, David Gold and David Sullivan, have published a 10-point plan for taking the club forward. Their list includes the recruitment and retention of players, action to clear the club's debt and plans to move the club to the London 2012 Olympic Stadium.
