This five night inn-to-inn hike through Switzerland’s Berner Oberland follows the most scenic hiking trails between the villages of Interlaken, Grindelwald, Wengen and Mürren.
The Berner Oberland is Switzerland at its most picture-perfect. It is the land of alphorn blowers, flower-filled meadows, milk chocolate, cheese and Swiss cows grazing contentedly on the richest alpine pastures you’ve ever seen. The Berner Oberland also offers some of the finest hiking in the Swiss Alps. Pint-sized cogwheel trains whisk hikers above tree line for stunning walks on wildflower trails above the clouds. Down low, small farms selling local products invite hikers to embrace the slow life, meandering across carpeted rolling hills and sampling delicious Swiss delicacies along the way. On this trip, you’ll hike beneath a trio of stunning glacier covered mountains, the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, and you’ll walk through the magical valley of Lauterbrunnen, nestled between stunning precipitous cliffs and 72 ethereal waterfalls. Mountain footpaths also lead to the timeless village of Gimmelwald where cute wooden chalets adorned with colorful flower boxes and Swiss flags huddle around perfectly manicured mountain pastures.
For this hike, we’ve paired the Berner Oberland’s most scenic mountain trails with upgraded deluxe rooms in cozy three and four-star mountain inns and hotels offering stunning mountain views. This Berner Oberland hike also includes first class round trip rail tickets between Zürich Airport and Interlaken and unlimited travel on railways and lifts during the hike including a trip to the Jungfraujoch, a truly outstanding viewpoint and the highest rail station in Europe. Luggage is transported and mountain chalet restaurants serve hot local specialties for lunch along the trail. This hike begins in the cozy village of Wilderswil on the outskirts of Interlaken. The hike can be extended to the village of Kandersteg, see our nine night Berner Oberland inn-to-inn hike. We also have a seven night hike called the Jungfrau Wanderweek which is identical to the nine night itinerary but ends in Mürren instead of Kandersteg.
