Filippo Inzaghi has been replaced as manager of AC Milan by Sinisa Mihajlovic after just one season in charge of the Serie A giants.

The former Juventus and Milan striker endured a difficult first year in full-time management, having guided the seven-time European champions to a disappointing 10th-placed finish last season.

Inzaghi's team won fewer Serie A games last campaign than any Milan side since the 2000-01 campaign - form which saw the 41-year-old end a 14-year spell with the club.

"AC Milan communicate that Filippo Inzaghi has been discharged of his responsibilities as first team coach. The club thank him for his work," the club said in a statement on their website.

Ex-Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has been named as Inzaghi’s successor, penning a two-year deal at the San Siro.

The 46-year-old Mihajlovic coached Sampdoria for the past two seasons, leading the Genoa club to seventh this year.
