Description

Grow a garden filled with the beautiful Shasta Daisy, from freshly harvested Chrysanthemum maximum flower seeds. Shasta Daisy is a popular, heirloom choice for its stunning, pure white flowers. Each bloom will open up to 3 inches in diameter, exposing a golden-yellow center. The stems and foliage of Shasta Daisy are equally as attractive as the flowers themselves. Each plant will mature to a height of roughly 18 to 30 inches tall. Shasta Daisy will attract an array of beneficial insects to the garden, such as butterflies, bumblebees & honeybees as well.

Shasta Daisy is categorized as an perennial flowering plant, meaning that these plants will establish a deep root system in the first growing season. The plant life will wilt on the surface, during the cold months of late Autumn & Winter. New, fresh plant life will then reemerge the following growing season, when temperatures are warm enough to sustain plant life. Shasta Daisy plants are also known to reseed & establish completely new plants the following year.

Grow Shasta Daisy in flower beds, along borders, such as walkways, driveways and along fences as well. These plants also make a great companion plant when grown with other wildflowers, such as Coreopsis and Coneflower. Shasta Daisy will not require too much attention after it is successfully established. A perfect choice for a low maintenance garden. These stunning plants will bloom from early Summer to the mid, to late Autumn season.

Sowing The Seed

Shasta Daisy can be established either indoors, or directly outdoors. If started indoors, sow your seeds in peat pots, 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. Sow your Shasta Daisy seeds at a depth of 1/16" under topsoil, so that direct light can reach the seed. When the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed, you can begin transplanting or direct sowing your seeds outdoors. Remember, light plays a crucial role in the successful germination of your seeds, so avoid burying them further than the recommended depth mentioned above.

Growing Conditions

Shasta Daisy will thrive in an area that receives full sunlight for the majority of the day. They can also handle a bit of partial shade, just as long as temperature exceed 70F. The soil should be fertile & rich, containing a good amount of organic matter. Also make sure that your sowing medium is well drained as well. To increase your drainage, we recommend adding a light compost to any areas that consist of hard, compact soil. Water the soil daily with a mist setting to provide an ample amount of moisture, without disrupting, or disturbing the seeds.

Germination & Growth

Shasta Daisy seeds are known to show signs of life within as little as 7 to 10 days after sowing. The plants will grow to a mature height of 18 to 30 inches tall and can be spaced about 12 to 18 inches apart from one another. Shasta Daisy will produce gorgeous, 3 inch, pure white flowers, that are accented with a golden-yellow center. They are known to attract an array of beneficial insects to the garden, such as bumblebees, butterflies & honeybees as well.
