Good but too much luck

Reviewed at: Chapter 8

Pretty interesting novel, the mc is pretty likeable and he starts out as just a normal guy trying to survive. My only complaint is that in the few scenarios that the mc was close to dying, he only survived thanks to luck.

You know the type of protagonist that just accidentally falls and barely avoid a weapon flying overhead he didn't notice? Yes, that kind of luck.

Barely dodging a spear from mist that he shouldn't have been able to dodge, luckily falling and dodging a monster jumping on him from behind... Luck seems to be the only thing keeping him alive.

There is also the fact that that the only human he killed was a supposed mercenary: the most incompetent mercenary in the world; their fight looked like two children tossing on the ground; how she has the title of mercenary when she was so incompetent idk, it looked like she had never been in a fight, even if that's her job; anyone else would have just capture the mc easily, or maybe the mc won by luck...

No grammatical error, and it's still too early to tell about the overall plot.

There was some background about floating islands, but I am not sure because nothing was mentioned about it and it wasn't explained.

The magic system seems really cool, and it has some snark to it, which some may like. Plus it's crafting, so that's a bonus.

Overall, it's enjoyable with a nice style, but the MC got into too many situations where he should have died or injured and he just survived due to luck. Sometimes it can happen, but so much and so soon in the story is not exactly promising.

Only initial impressions obv:
Seems like a cool setting, think alchemy-punk-esque and floating islands with dungeons, plus some sort of less standardized system.

Logarhythm is great at writing. Not much more to say there.

Character-wise, can't say much. They're all written well up to this point. MC doesn't start off as this established quirky character in the setting, as in Logarhythm' other story, but both MC and side chars look to be interesting (and quirky in the long run) :)

There is far too much luck involved. MC trips and that saves his life from an attack he didn't see... this happens 4 or 5 times in the first 20 chapters

The characterization and tone also just feels off to me.

Overall it is not a bad story, but it has some flaws.

Gritty series with heists, crime, and delving

Reviewed at: Chapter 22

I’m reviewing after chapter 22 and liking this series very well. Early on it seems like it’s going to have a lot of gritty fantasy city crime, and then it shifts into dungeon delving after things start going very off the rails for the protagonist. The protag has a nice mix of innate cunning while still being overwhelmed by some of what he’s experiencing, and the setting and backstory do a good job of justifying the skills and knowledge he has. I do hope the story moves back to that gritty fantasy crime tone from the earliest chapters. I was reminded (favorably) of Scott Lynch’s Gentleman Bastards series.

Throughly enjoying the story so far. Victor comes off as the type of MC I enjoy reading and having another character with my name made me laugh.  Can't wait to see more about flesh-crafting and the other magics.

After finishing 27 chapters I feel the need to start typing again! Thanks!

This is my first time writing a review, so I apologise in advance for what is probably either incorrectly or poorly done.

With that out of the way: This seems like something worth reading. As of me posting this review, there are only eight chapters, but already it has the hallmarks of a good story.

The characters, in my opinion, seem engaging. They don’t feel like cardboard- fake, which is a plus (or a requirement really in my opinion).

The powers hinted and shown thus far seem rather interesting- with a fascinating spin on how it seems it’s going to work, and the plot good- though as I’m literally only eight chapters in, you should probably take my words with some level of salt.

Im not sure what else to write, so I’m simply going to say this is probably going to be a good one. I would highly recommend checking this out.

Great story so far

Reviewed at: Chapter 23

Great story so far. Still in the early phases as the MC adapts to their newly gained powers. They don't seem to really have a handle on it yet but it is an interesting direction that certainly inspires interest. I cant wait to see where this will go. Thanks for sharing.
