“Dome of light” Nuremberg”. Color views

What was the original colourness of the Nuremberg “Dome of Light” (Lichtdom) from 1936 – 1938 over the “Zeppelin Field”?

White or yellow spotlight? No. The carbon arc lamps which were used in the German flak lamps produced a blue or blue-violet light. Reports of the time and current scientific work confirm this color.

There are also still functional models of the then used 150 cm headlights, which emit in operation this light.

And for the most important thing:
There is a color photo (by Hugo Jäger) from 1938 showing the real color of the flak headlight then.
In this photograph the blue violet tone of the light is clearly visible.

On September 9, 1938, a Friday, a “light dome” was last seen in Nuremberg.

Within the context of our newly created group “Nürnberger Lichtdom” (Nuremberg dome of light), we present four-color variants or viewing angles based on black-and-white photographs:

Lichtdom 1938 Walter Hege blaues violettes Licht Dome of light 1938 blue light Nuremberg   Lichtdom 1937 Lichtwand blaues violettes Licht Dome of light 1937 blue light Nuremberg

Lichtdom 1936 Hoffmann Kiefern blaues violettes Licht Dome of light 1936 blue light Nuremberg   Lichtdom 1937 Fernsicht blaues violettes Licht Dome of light 1937 blue light Nuremberg

1) The famous recording by Walter Hege from the year 1938 (upper left)
The zeppelin field grandstand is also colored

2) A distant view of the light dome of the year 1937 (lower right)
The cloudy sky prevented a higher light effect

3) A look at the light dome of the year 1936 with scattered light effect (lower left)
The visible buildings of the Zeppelin field are also colored. Included some of the flags

4) In comparison to this a recording of the year 1937 with collect-hard-light (upper right)
The current input of electric energy and the resulting in light energy is recognizable

In this work we refer to § 24 UrhG:
The black and white photos were not colored by a simple coloring on the computer – in each case every work was conneted with a real creation process behind it. Several work steps as well as manual work outside the computer were necessary.
This resulted in a work with a new or “own design height”.

The four motifs can also be ordered as wall paintings (H: 50 x W: 38 cm). The image was stuck onto a stable 5mm Forex plate – and provided with a protective film. Price on request.
