Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies are part of one of the greatest film franchises of all time, and that's largely thanks to the amazing characters featured in JRR Tolkien's beautiful world. One of the most impressive and beloved characters found on Middle-earth is none other than Legolas. He wasn't even in The Hobbit, but Jackson threw him into his movies anyway because he's just that loved by the fans!

Fans of the films have picked apart every aspect of the character, finding interesting details that make it all the better. Still, no matter how many times you watch the two trilogies, there's no way to see every detail that shows up on the screen - as the series is absolutely packed with small but impactful details. Nevertheless, plenty of people have noticed them and posted their findings on the MovieDetails subreddit. This list takes a look at some of the best small Legolas details from The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies that demand a rewatch.

Legolas And The Other Elves Of Middle-earth Don't Make A Sound While Moving

    From Redditor u/mcmohorn:

In Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002), the elves march silently when they get to Helms Deep. All other armies make loud footsteps. This is because elves in Tolkien’s Middle-earth were light on their feet. Another example is when Legolas walks atop the snow in Fellowship of the Ring (2001).

Legolas Doesn't Sink Into The Snow Like The Other Members Of The Fellowship

    From Redditor u/Wenis22:

In Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Legolas standing on the snow while everyone else is waist-deep shows just how light of foot elves really are.

Legolas Is Prepared To Fight His Kinsman To Protect The Fellowship

    From Redditor u/Storytellerrrr:

In The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), when the elves of Lothlórien capture the Fellowship - Legolas; a Wood Elf Prince from the neighboring Elf Kingdom of Mirkwood; nocks and draws his bow, prepared to fight his kinsmen, to protect the Fellowship.

This scene also testifies how amazingly well the Wood Elves of Lothlórien hide in the forest. Especially this one-shot I chose to upload, with Legolas glancing over his shoulder looking surprised. Not only are the Wood Elves able to surround and capture the Fellowship at point-blank range without even being NOTICED, they literally stand with their arrow tips centimeters from their soon-to-be captive's faces.

And the ones they captures are no careless slouches either: We have a Captain of Gondor with decades of experience from war, a dúnedain ranger of the wild raised by Elves, a paranoid Dwarven warrior on guard with his eyes peeled, and finally a fellow Wood Elf Prince capable of seeing tiny details over great distances - all are caught off-guard and didn't have a clue about what was about to happen.

A terrifying and amazing display of stealth from the Wood Elves of Lothlórien.

Legolas Is Careful With His Ammunition And Only Fires When Necessary

    From Redditor u/Spartan17492:

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring. Legolas is shown after the Moria fights at Lorien with 3 out of the 24 Mirkwood arrows he brought with him. He fires 15 arrows on-screen during Moria, leaving 6 fired off-screen (which is reasonable). A hero with a realistic ammo count. How good is that?

Legolas Went To Lorien At The End Of The War Of The Ring

    From Redditor u/_kjl_:

At the end of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, you can read Frodo’s writing showing that Sam became the mayor of the Shire, Legolas goes to Lorien and Gimli lives in glittering aisles.

Legolas Only Ever Said One Sentence To Frodo Across The Entire Series

    From Redditor u/master_dandelion:

In the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001-2004), Legolas and Frodo do not have a single conversation except for the famous "and you have my bow."

Legolas Doesn't Leave Footprints When He Walks

    From Redditor u/nzwolfgang:

In The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Legolas doesn’t leave footprints. As per the books, he moves so gracefully and lightly he doesn’t leave footprints in the snow. All the other characters do.

A Familiar Score Plays When Legolas & Thranduil Speak Of A Young Ranger In The North

    From Redditor u/AndCanCla:

In The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014), as Thranduil tells Legolas to seek for a young ranger in the north, the fellowship theme can be heard, faintly, in the background.

Legolas' Archery Skills Are Superior To Aragorn's (And Everyone Else)

    From Redditor u/Horse_Armour:

In The Fellowship Of The Ring, during the escape from the Mines of Moria Aragorn & Legolas both loose arrows at orc bowmen. In one scene, both Aragorn and Legolas loose simultaneously, but only Legolas's arrow hits. This goes to show how wood elves are even greater archers than the Northern Rangers.

Legolas Learns From His Fight With The Cave Troll

    From Redditor u/Chugmuncher:

In the Lord of the Rings, Legolas learns from his fight with the cave troll in fellowship when taking down the Oliphant in Return of the King. In The Fellowship of the Ring, in the cave troll scene, Legolas climbs atop the cave troll to try and kill it but is unsuccessful after the arrow doesn't pierce the skull. In Return of the King, at the battle of Pelennor fields, Legolas climbs atop an Oliphant and eventually gets up to the head, where he shoots 3 arrows so he can actually pierce the skull.

Legolas Makes It Up The Falling Stairs Via His Natural Elvish Abilities

    From Reddditor u/wirralriddler:

In The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, one infamous scene has Legolas climbing up on stairs that are falling down. While physically impossible, this is to show just how light of foot elves really are.
