John Singer Sargent | Venice painting

John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) was the most sought-after society painter of the late 19th and early 20th century. But he led a double life. Throughout the nearly 30 years he was occupied with portraiture, he produced hundreds of landscapes and figure studies not intended for public view, seldom seen outside his studio or beyond his immediate circle of family and friends.
