Our inspiration for the melon colourways came from our fascination with Japan's long tradition of growing fruits of the highest quality. In Japan, fruit and melons can often be very pricey because they are cultivated in very certain conditions in order to make each fruit as great as possible. Fruit and melons are considered quite exclusive, and are famous for having a unique and exquisite sweetness, each bite being a true delight ๐Ÿ‰ ๐Ÿˆ

These koinobori are handmade in the forests of Japan by one of Japanโ€™s oldest manufacturers. The colours of this special limited edition green and yellow koi collection have been carefully selected to represent two of Japanโ€™s favorite fruits, the muskmelon and watermelon.

Our carp streamers are made of sheets of washi paper and individually printed and painted by hand. Therefore each koinobori is unique and a small piece of art - just like the Japanese melons.

The traditional koinobori streamers are used on one of Japanโ€™s biggest holidays, the 5th of May, where they celebrate the Day of The Child. Koi fish can live for more than 100 years and swim upstream, therefore they represent resilience, strength, courage and love. By hanging the koi fish outside on the special day, parents wish for these qualities to be instilled in their children.

โ€œVery Melonโ€ is a song we stumbled upon while living in Japan 10 years ago. Itโ€™s from an anime called Konjiki no Gash Bell!! (้‡‘่‰ฒใฎใ‚ฌใƒƒใ‚ทใƒฅใƒ™ใƒซ!!). Outside Japan, the anime and manga series was localized as Zatch Bell! In the video Victoream munches the melon in high speed and starts singing the "Very Melon" song, Zatch and Tia sings encores and dances with him. Ever since we heard it the first time, โ€œVery melonโ€ has been a returning favourite phrase for the Ohayo-team. It tends to stay in your head for quite some time after listening. Enjoy!
