      1. Oh wow, congrats on your find! They were (almost?) eradicated here a few decades ago, but have been going through a real come-back. Not at all at "pest levels" like maybe half a century ago, but I do see a few dozen every year - especially at night around lights. Very clumsy flyers :o) Posted 2 years ago, modified 2 years ago

The cockchafer, colloquially called May bug or doodlebug, is a European beetle of the genus Melolontha, in the family Melolonthidae. Some authors would place the Melolonthidae as a subfamily Melolonthinae of the family Scarabaeidae.
