VEPAR
Vepar is the first boss encounter in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and is located in the upper right corner of the Galleon Minerva area. Enter the boss door and a conversation with Gebel will begin. After Gebel retreats, Vepar will appear and the boss encounter will begin.
STRATEGY
Vepar employs a wide variety of both close and long range attacks but, being the first boss in the game, they are relatively straightforward.
Vepar will frequently use an acid lobbing attack. The boss will draw close to the bow of the ship, open its mouth, and spit three purple blobs into the air. Depending on where you are on the deck, it can appear to be two attacks at first, so watch the trajectory closely as the blobs ascend, then run forward or backstep to avoid taking damage, then close the gap and attack the boss.
Vepar will also use their tentacles to swipe at Miriam and draw her closer to the boss, so jump over the giant pink tentacle and maintain your attack on the boss. (If you have obtained the recommended Gale Crawler Shard, and are standing close to the boss, cast the spell while jumping to deal heavy damage to the boss)
From time to time, Vepar will descend out of view and reappear in the background, to initiate a water jet attack. Jump as the stream of water passes to avoid damage, and slash at the boss while airborne. Vepar will frequently follow this attack up with another from the other direction, so use the same strategy to avoid damage and keep damaging the boss.
Vepar will stop spouting acid and water streams to spit white globs onto the deck of the ship. When the globs hit the ground, they’ll turn into Seama demons, so use a single cast of Gale Crawler to get rid of them, then keep focusing damage on the boss.
Use your backstep, spells, and potions and be patient and you’ll soon destroy Vepar and lay claim to the Thrashing Tentacle Shard.
