Ferdinand “Ferdi” Kubler (b. 1919) is a former Swiss cyclist. Over the course of his riding
career, he managed to rack up over 400 professional victories. In 1940, he commenced
racing professionally. However, he was limited to racing in Switzerland during the earlier part
of his career due to the Nazi occupation of large parts of Europe. A three-time winner of the
Tour de Suisse, Kubler reached the apex of his career during 1950-1952. Two of the most
notable races he won were the 1950 Tour de France and the 1951 World Road Race
Championship. Known for his impulsive racing style, Kubler was referred to by many as “the
cowboy”, a nickname he was given as a result of his love of Stetson hats. Toned. Right edge
irregular from being neatly torn from album. Paper remnants on verso along right margin.
