This movie delivers what it promises.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who later this year will fight all manner of weird, oversize creatures in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, will be getting another such film under his belt in 2018. It's called Rampage, it's directed by his San Andreas cohort Brad Peyton, and it features a giant silverback gorilla named George thrashing his way through the urban jungles of the USA. Here's the trailer:

The movie is based on the classic arcade game of the same name, in which monstrous beings, well, rampage, but that's about where the similarities end. The game features an origin story in which humans are the ones mutating and growing into these XXXL troublemakers. Here, it's just a handful of zoo animals being exposed to some nondescript gaseous sci-fi nonsense. Pretty standard pre-summer blockbuster-season stuff, right here.

Still, if you don't think the sound of The Rock yelling and running around trying to catch a giant gorilla, a giant mutant wolf, and a giant crocodile (whose name in the games is "LIZZIE," something I so desperately hope translates over to the adaptation) is even a little bit fun, then I don't know how to help you.

Rampage is coming out on April 20, 2018. Make of that release date what you will.
