Sapphire Systems (Novec™ 1230)

SAPPHIRE® fire suppression systems are designed to extinguish fires as quickly as possible, while ensuring the protection and preservation of affected assets during the extinguishing process thanks to the clean agents used, i.e., non-volatile, non-gaseous, electrically non-conductive and above all, non-staining after evaporation.

These systems have very advanced detectors that locate and extinguish the fire long before the flames appear. The detection system has an Autopulse microprocessor with a highly sensitive smoke detector, heat detector and flame detector, which when a fire is detected will sound alarms, close doors, shut down equipment and release the fire suppression system immediately.

Revolutionary fluid 3M™ Novec™ 1230

For Sapphire Novec to fight fires, it uses the revolutionary 3M™ Novec™ 1230 fluid, also called 3M FK 5-1-12 extinguishing gas – a state-of-the-art synthetic clean agent, odorless and colorless, absorbs heat better than water, evaporates 50 times faster than water without harming people, it is stored in liquid state, but discharges in gaseous state and thanks to the fact that it extinguishes the fire faster, it is needed in less quantity and therefore takes up less space, requiring approximately 80% less space compared to inert gas systems.

This Novec gas from Sapphire Novec was developed as an alternative to halons and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). It has an ozone depletion potential of 0.0, i.e., because it does not contain bromine, which is the component identified as contributing to ozone depletion on Earth, it has zero ozone depletion potential. We cannot forget that it also has a global warming potential of less than one, the lowest compared to other clean chemical agent alternatives, in addition to having the lowest atmospheric lifetime of only five days, which means that 3M FK 5-1-12 extinguishing gas considerably mitigates its impact on global warming, achieving the highest margin of safety for humans among clean agents, including inert gas.

Guaranteed reliability

The Novec 1230 extinguishing system is the most environmentally friendly fire extinguishing system. It is ideal for class A, B and C fire hazards. Excellent also for areas where electronic systems cannot be shut down in an emergency, where people cannot evacuate and where the use of other agents may aggravate the problem or pose another problem, such as data processing centers, museums, archive rooms, industries, transportation, aviation, health centers or universities.

It includes the 3M™ Blue Sky℠ Guarantee, a global environmental guarantee designed to boost customer confidence and provide peace of mind in the customer that they have made the right decision to protect everything in their care. It is also worth noting that Novec 1230 gas is not subject to HFC phase-out, according to international regulatory bodies, including the Montreal Protocol.
