Hogwarts Library
The Hogwarts library is a great place to do research on any issue. Nicolas Flamel, the secrets of polynectar or complete documentation on Horcruxes, everything is there. This is where Harry comes to snoop around with his invisibility cloak, or where Hermione spends most of her time.
The scenes of the first film were shot in the authentic Duke Humfrey Library at Oxford University. Due to the many complications of shooting in such a historic location, the production team decided to replicate the set at Leavesden Studios. Everything is then taken up again, the system of chains on the oldest works, or the magnificent leather covers of certain volumes.
160 pairs of glasses were used by Daniel Radcliffe for the whole saga. While a simple Oculus Reparo would have been enough.
Bodleian Library
Established in Oxford since 1602 with much older works, the Bodleian Library takes its name from its founder, Thomas Bodley.
The numbers in this library are staggering. 12 million printed books and more than 80,000 scientific journals are kept there. There are also manuscripts, papyri, maps and drawings, some of them almost as old as the world itself.
Among the many libraries integrated into the Bodleian Library, there are some very specific ones such as the Bodleian Japanese Library or the very old Duke Humphrey’s Library dating from 1488.
