Memory Monday: parking discs in Copenhagen

Upon walking around downtown Copenhagen, I quickly noticed that all parked cars had these little wheels on the dashboard.

I never saw a parking sign explaining this until we were out near our hotel and I saw the sign on the right posted.

Curiosity got the better of me so I finally decided to look it up on Google. Here’s what I found:

“All cars in Denmark need to display a parking disc on your dashboard. A car hired in Denmark will be equipped with one. If you are driving a foreign car you may purchase a parking disk from banks, gas stations and tourist offices. Parking discs are used in parking areas which do not require a parking fee. A parking disc is simply a clock which you set the time you arrived in the parking lot. There will be signs in the parking lot letting you know how long you have until you need to move your car.” Info from danishnet.com

So, there you go. If you are driving a car in Copenhagen you will definitely need to use one of these. Just beware the toll bridge to Sweden – it’s $53 each way!
