Review: Sky Bar at Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisboa

Tell us about this hotel bar.
Since 1933, Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisboa has been one of the city’s ritziest hotels, and Sky Bar is an equally striking but contemporary contrast to this history. After a significant renovation in 2017, the bar is now open year round, showcasing a primarily cool, white backdrop punctuated by wood. A dramatic curved staircase connects the entrance to the lower level, and a duo of transport containers, emblazoned with the artwork of Portuguese artist Luio Zau, double as restrooms.
Cool. So who’s there?
A chic mix of locals, expats, and tourists come for the sunset views and electric party atmosphere.
When it comes to the bar, what's their specialty?
Classics—found under the menu’s Stars category—are reliable, but you're better off springing for one of the bar’s original creations. High rollers can opt for the gold flake–laden 50 Euro Constellations. Otherwise, seek out the savory Poseidon (mezcal, celery bitters, soy sauce, lime juice, red pepper, and ginger beer) or the Pepperlines (Bombay Sapphire, lime juice, egg white, pineapple, chile, and tonic).
Anything to note on the food menu?
There's easy-to-please tapas like shrimp wraps with chile mayo, watercress, and roasted cashew, plus tuna tataki with citrus sauce.
And how's the service?
Well-trained and hospitable—just what you'd expect from this hotels.
Wrap it up: Why should we make our way to a hotel on our night out?
Panoramic views of Lisbon in a beach-meets-nightclub atmosphere with live music.
