Today someone has asked me how I make a sound port lid. I have searched in my computer for some photos that show the process. Here they are. I originally saw this feature on a Stephan Connor guitar.
I think the process is clear when you watch the photographs. Some things to take into account: the sides I used are laminated, that is why I don't use a sound port reinforcement. If you use one, the magnets should be fitted in it. Magnets are 6 x 3 mm. The lid is laminated with two sheets of wood and a thin metal sheet, using epoxy. Then a leather (or similar) protection sheet is added. Any questions are welcome.

Very nice; very practical. I have a magnetic armrest on my guitar and it works beautifully.

How come we all have the same lime-green pattern makers vice?

I totally agree. I love mine. I am guessing that we all bought ours at different times and on different continents, though; strange that there is only one guy out there making this vice.

I assume I know the answer, but do you cut the oval hole in the sides before bending, or after?

I cut the hole after bending and laminating the sides.Peter_C wrote:I assume I know the answer, but do you cut the oval hole in the sides before bending, or after?
