Ship's barometer, Ship's clock, fine vintage set. Schatz Ocean Quartz ship's clock and Schatz barometer with thermometer in - Brass, Glass - Second half 20th century

Founded in the 1850s, Schatz was for years the leading manufacturer of classic ship’s instruments, before finally closing in 1985. This set comprises superb examples of the top-of-the-range Schatz Ocean Quartz clock and matching Schatz barometer/thermometer, both showing superb workmanship. They are fully functional. The clock keeps perfect time. It has an electric quartz movement with working mechanical chimes, accessed from the front. The chimes can be switched on and off as desired using the green dial (see photo #17). They will be switched off during transport. When the chimes are on, the ship's bell strikes a 4-hour watch sequence marked by progressive cycles of one-to-eight bells struck at 30-minute intervals. The brass housings are finished in mat lacquer while the front facing parts have a high-shine finish. Housings and dials from both instruments are in near mint condition without cracks, dents or major blemishes. The doors are secured by brass scuttle clamps. The facet-cut glass ports are clean and intact. The Schatz barometer is calibrated in both millibars and inches (mercury units). The lower half of the dial has a fine capillary thermometer (Celsius and Fahrenheit). The barometer may need adjusting after transport, easily done via front access. A great opportunity to own a set of these fine instruments, for use at home, in the office or on-board ship.
