1979 Saab 900 Turbo

NEF
Stockholm
Basic information and History

The Saab 900 was a long-awaited replacement for the predecessor Saab 99 and even though a lot of technology was included, the model received a couple of updates in both safety and comfort. The design language is recognizable and this was one of the first Turbo models in the 3-door hatchback.

This example was manufactured in Trollhättan in late 1978 for export, and was imported "home" to Sweden in 2021 from Latvia where, according to info, it was sold new in 1979 by a true SAAB enthusiast who was looking for a top example of a Swedish classic and cared for it very well since he bought it. According to information from previous sellers, the car was owned by i.a. Vladimir Antonov, but even if it doesn't sound unreasonable, it's not something we or the seller have been able to confirm at the moment. The car has undergone a thorough renovation and is in an unusually fine condition. The renovation has been carried out with an incredible sense of detail and hardly a screw or piece of sheet metal has been left untouched. A lot of time has been spent to ensure that all replaced parts are original and the car maintains a very high level throughout.

The car was delivered in the same Aquamarine Blue that it was painted in during the refurbishment and with a matching Lavender Blue interior which is in very good condition.

Condition

Exterior: The seller says that the car is in a very good restored condition with no damage to the bodywork and completely rust free. Slightly less applied stone chips in the front and in the windshield and the original bumpers have some minor signs of age but overall presents as an almost new car. The Inca rims are free of edge scratches except the right front that has a small mark and is in the same fine condition underneath. For more info on the condition please see our detailed photos in the album and feel free to ask questions in the comment field!

Interior: The interior is also in fantastic original condition with few signs of use. The blue upholstery is without any particular wear and all plastic details and functions are in the same fully functional and fine condition. Noticed that the roof covering hangs a little at the rear edge. For more info, please see our detailed photos in the album and feel free to ask questions in the comment field!

Mechanics: The car runs fantastically well in both engine and gearbox and has a lot of documented history and original service book. The timing chain, tensioner and slide rails were changed by a reputable SAAB workshop that also changed the Bosch warm up regulator and Bosch fuel solenoid valve. Serviced November 2022 by Solna SAAB service and inspected without remark 2021/05. All brakes and tires are in good condition and without any complaints. Please see all the photos in the album for more info!

Summary

A really nice icon and part of the Swedish car industry. There are few objects left in the same fine renovated condition as this one which almost guarantees this will be a fine investment for the future. The car does just as well in a museum as it does on the road as a really fun and classic daily driver!
