In pictures: The paintings of Joan Eardley

A new exhibition of work by one of the UK's greatest post war artists, Joan Eardley, is being held at the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh.
The exhibition will have 21 pieces of work, some of which have never been seen in public before
Joan Eardley was particularly known for her portraiture of street children in Glasgow and landscapes of the fishing village of Catterline in north-east Scotland
Many of the paintings have been in the Eardley family since her death in 1963, and include rare paintings from her travels in Italy in the late 1940s
Interest in Joan Eardley has grown steadily - she first exhibited at the Scottish Gallery in 1955 and this is the 14th exhibition they have presented
