Rivaldo has been talking about Barcelona and reckons his old team should prioritise promoting youth rather than spending big on new signings.

Barcelona are being constantly linked with moves for Adrien Rabiot, Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt, but Rivaldo says those players aren’t needed.

“They’ve always talked about players like Xavi, Iniesta and Puyol, but they have left the club... since then we have not seen new players of quality coming from La Masia,” he said.

”[Barcelona] should look more at La Masia and less outside the club. Murillo arrived, they’re talking about Rabiot and De Jong... in my opinion the club doesn’t need to reinforce from outside. They have an excellent structure and should focus on moving through new young talents.”

Barcelona do have some young players on the fringes of the first team currently. Carles Alena has been promoted to the first-team squad, while Chumi, Jorge Cuenca, Riqui Puig and Juan Miranda have all had minutes this season.
