Silica – Northern Goshawk
(Accipiter gentilis)

Silica came to us in December 2015.  Silica is a Northern Goshawk,  a raptor of northern forests that shows incredible maneuverability & hunting tenacity in dense woods.  This beautiful bird was originally shot by someone in 2008 fracturing her left wing.  She also sustained damage to her left eye.  Although Silica had many months of physical therapy she never regained her ability to lift the injured wing properly which indicated tendon or ligament damage.  As a result she is unable to fly.  Silica spent 7 years with the California rehab group as an educational Animal Ambassador before coming to live at Badger Run.
