Commodore C64 produces 240p NTSC / 288p PAL output at 60 frames NTSC / 50 frames PAL, using "trick" where both odd and even fields are drawn at even fields position, and that creates distinctive dark scanlines on the screen that you can see on different consoles from that time.
Unfortunately, this device, even though some other reviewers claiming, not support 240p/288p mode, treats it as 480i/576i mode, and the attached video show that, where the picture shows how it should look.
How you can say that? easy, when you try to simulate the transparency of the object on the screen, you draw an object in one frame, and then not in the other, and then repeat that for as long as you want the object to look transparent. and if the device recognizes 240p/288p mode, it will look like the object is blinking really fast, but if it is not recognized, the object will not blink, it will look like every other line of the object is not drawn.
So this was the deal breaker for me, I will return it.
Although I have to say that output quality is really good, the Composite looks very good, and S-Video is very, very crisp. If you need it for 480i/576i upscaling, it is doing a very good job, quite better than a few other cheap upscaling devices I tried.
Built is quite good, the whole outer casing is held with one screw, and snuggly fits with the other part that holds electronics.
Electronics are built very clean, all SMD components, and most hardworking IC has a cooler on it. Main IC is with the ‘tc9138a’ mark on it, can’t find much about it. I let the device run for about 2 hours, and I can say that it is not overheating at all.
All the buttons are working, switching inputs works fine, switching resolutions working fine too, and the part that I was most interested in, switching between 50 and 60 Hz is working properly – actually, in this case, it is switching between 30 NTSC frames and 25 PAL frames.
Take into consideration that frames and not Synched – from time to time you will see duplicated or swallowed frames, but it is not happening very often, maybe once in 3-4 seconds.
The power cable plug is not very conveniently set, as you will probably have a problem putting the SCART cable because the power cable will be in the way. It can be solved with 90 degrees angled power cable, or (in my case) cutting excessive wiggling rubber on top of the power plug.
In conclusion, a fairly good device that is not meeting my expectations.
Will I recommend it for consoles like NES, SNES, Genesis, C64, Spectrum 48K, PS1, N64, and Amstrad CPC? No, I will not. It works, but the output will not be as what you remembered from CRT.

In short, I use the converter everyday, frequently switching resolutions and video sources, and I have yet to have any problems with my purchase. Slight delay, but for the price you really cant beat it.
A lot of people have left negative reviews based on theirs being DOA, so maybe I got lucky, but mine worked right away as expected. Don't expect miracles - your old games will once again look how you remembered them, rather than looking like a smeared disaster when using the original composite cables on an HDTV.
