Good device that not recognize 240p/288p mode
The main reason why I got this device is to be able to upscale Commodore C64 PAL output to an LCD TV/Monitor at 50Hz.Commodore C64 produces 240p NTSC / 288p PAL output at 60 frames NTSC / 50 frames PAL, using "trick" where both odd and even fields are drawn at even fields position, and that creates distinctive dark scanlines on the screen that you can see on different consoles from that time.Unfortunately, this device, even though some other reviewers claiming, not support 240p/288p mode, treats it as 480i/576i mode, and the attached video show that, where the picture shows how it should look. How you can say that? easy, when you try to simulate the transparency of the object on the screen, you draw an object in one frame, and then not in the other, and then repeat that for as long as you want the object to look transparent. and if the device recognizes 240p/288p mode, it will look like the object is blinking really fast, but if it is not recognized, the object will not blink, it will look like every other line of the object is not drawn. So this was the deal breaker for me, I will return it.Although I have to say that output quality is really good, the Composite looks very good, and S-Video is very, very crisp. If you need it for 480i/576i upscaling, it is doing a very good job, quite better than a few other cheap upscaling devices I tried.Built is quite good, the whole outer casing is held with one screw, and snuggly fits with the other part that holds electronics.Electronics are built very clean, all SMD components, and most hardworking IC has a cooler on it. Main IC is with the ‘tc9138a’ mark on it, can’t find much about it. I let the device run for about 2 hours, and I can say that it is not overheating at all.All the buttons are working, switching inputs works fine, switching resolutions working fine too, and the part that I was most interested in, switching between 50 and 60 Hz is working properly – actually, in this case, it is switching between 30 NTSC frames and 25 PAL frames.Take into consideration that frames and not Synched – from time to time you will see duplicated or swallowed frames, but it is not happening very often, maybe once in 3-4 seconds. The power cable plug is not very conveniently set, as you will probably have a problem putting the SCART cable because the power cable will be in the way. It can be solved with 90 degrees angled power cable, or (in my case) cutting excessive wiggling rubber on top of the power plug.In conclusion, a fairly good device that is not meeting my expectations. Will I recommend it for consoles like NES, SNES, Genesis, C64, Spectrum 48K, PS1, N64, and Amstrad CPC? No, I will not. It works, but the output will not be as what you remembered from CRT.

You can find these converters from many sellers and many different brands, but all of the ones that say "HD Video Converter" on the top are made by the same Chinese company. It works as advertised: you just hook the proper SCART RGB cable up to your Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, or other preferred entertainment device and then hook the other end of the cable into this box. An HDMI cable plugs into your TV and, like magic, you see sharp, colorful pixels on your screen. Seriously, it's that simple. You don't get high-end features, such as a scanline option or filters, but you do get four output resolutions, the ability to select 50/60hz, and an HDMI pass through so you don't lose an input on your TV. I've experienced no problems: no dropouts, no lag. My system of choice is the Sega Genesis. I'm using this box with a raw sync SCART cable bought from a seller called Retro Console Accessories. The results have been fantastic. The only thing I'd warn of is that you may get a blank screen on the 1024x768 and 800x600 options if your display doesn't support those resolutions. A quick double-tap of the middle button on the box will toggle you through the options until you get back to 720p and 1080p.

The first one I bought did not work. Only the On Screen display for the actual converter would show up. The second one that I bought works but the On Screen display is different and it looks like it adds some kind of smoothing filter that I personally don't like. This is a good way to start using RGB video on a HDTV (if you can get one that works) but I will definitely save up and buy a XRGB Mini or equivalent.

I don't know why all the reviews are so negative. I have had mine for over six months, and have had no problems at all. HDMI pass through works fine, and the variable resolution output select is works great, SCART looks great. The only complaint I might have is that there is a slight delay in the conversion process. For the price I was extremely satisfied. Don't understand all these negative reviews, so I felt compelled to write my own.

In short, I use the converter everyday, frequently switching resolutions and video sources, and I have yet to have any problems with my purchase. Slight delay, but for the price you really cant beat it.

Little to no input lag, and easy to use and set up. I decided to purchase this specific upscaler due to a YouTube comparison video I watched between this and the Framemeister. For $32 vs $450+, I could not see a reason to fork over an extra $420 due to how similar they looked.

A lot of people have left negative reviews based on theirs being DOA, so maybe I got lucky, but mine worked right away as expected. Don't expect miracles - your old games will once again look how you remembered them, rather than looking like a smeared disaster when using the original composite cables on an HDTV.

Toggle the 720p/1080p button for the 1280x1024 output to get the sharpest picture while retaining the correct aspect ratio.

Works great on any PAL or NTSC Amiga and mostly OK on the Atari STE I plugged into it, and because it's RGB the picture is as good as it gets. I did find that while the Amiga behaved with no issues, the Atari gets into a PAL/NTSC auto detection loop when using certain PAL games on an NTSC machine. It will fix itself after a few tries mostly, but on a few games it needed a power cycle on the computer to fix it, even after dropping back into GEM from the game (loading the game image from an UltraSatan). Still worth it though, the Atari ST is a pain to get working on modern equipment and this does it for dirt cheap.
