Nine MGM Resorts Properties Receive Approval to Open Their Gaming Floors at 100 Percent

The Nevada Gaming Control Board granted nine resorts on the Las Vegas Strip from MGM Resorts International approval to return to 100 percent occupancy and no social distancing on the gaming floors, effective immediately. The Bellagio, Aria, Park MGM, New York-New York, MGM Grand, Excalibur, Luxor, Mirage, and Mandalay Bay all received approval.

The largest employer in Nevada says its efforts to vaccinate employees included an on-site inoculation site at Mandalay Bay Convention Center that put shots in arms for thousands of employees, their families, third-party partners, and entertainers. Community Ambulance also conducted pop-up vaccine clinics at every one of MGM Resorts’ Las Vegas properties. Employees who uploaded their CDC vaccination cards into MGM Resorts’ internal portal were entered into drawings for a chance to win show tickets, restaurant vouchers, spa vouchers, hotel stays/experiences, and cash.

The waiver only applies to gaming floors. Restaurants, pools, and other non-gaming areas still adhere to Clark County’s mandate with 80 percent occupancy restrictions and three feet of social distancing. Masks are still mandated statewide.

The resorts join Wynn Las Vegas, Encore Las Vegas, Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and the Strat, which all received approval to expand to 100 percent capacity. The Nevada Gaming Control Board says that individual resort properties can waive their county’s occupancy rates by applying directly to the board.

Clark County limits capacity to 80 percent until at least 60 percent of the 1.8 million residents are vaccinated.
