Grossmunter ChruchEnjoy the view of Altstadt from atop this Romanesque style church – situated in the old town of Zürich; the Grossmünster Church is one of the four main churches of Zürich. The Romanesque style protestant church was built in 11th century and it has been rebuilt several times since then. The church’s architecture reveals the medieval styles, blending seamlessly into neo gothic style of 18th century. The church is believed to have been built at the site where the Zürich's patron saints Felix and Regula were buried. The twin towers of the Grossmünster are the most recognised landmark of the old town of Zürich. The interior of the church contains variety of features from 14th century frescos, to the newly added stained glass windows from 20th century. Some of the notable features include bronze doors by Otto Münch, the Romanesque crypt, stained glass windows by Augusto Giacometti, the Reformation Museum, and the recently added glass windows by Sigmar Polke. The highlight of the Grossmünster is its tall towers. A climb of 187 stairs in Karl Sturm is rewarded with bird’s eye view of Zürich’s old town along with Lake Zürich. You will certainly be mesmerised by the magnificent Alpine peaks dominating in the distant horizon.
