Larix decidua has been used medicinally as an expectorant, helping break up mucus in the chest. Its has also been used topically to treat psoriasis and eczema. An extract of the bark can be used as a mild laxative. Larix decidua is prevalent in some European folklore. It has been used to ward off evil spirits and prevent enchantments. L. decidua is also a great species for bonsai.

Larix decidua should be sown 1/4 inch deep in a well draining potting soil. The soil should be moist, but not soaking wet. Keep the seeds between 70°F and 80°F for best results. Germination typically takes place between 25 and 65 days.
