Cervicitis: Cervix

Overview

Chronic inflammation composed of lymphocytes and plasma cells is uniformly identified in the cervical mucosa. The diagnosis of cervicitis is best made on clinical grounds, in the presence of an erythematous cervical mucosa. When the inflammatory infiltrate is marked and lymphoid follicles are seen, then it is reasonable to make a diagnosis of cervicitis on histological grounds.
