Field mint, or meadow mint (Latin Mentha arvensis).

A perennial plant with a creeping rhizome, 15-100 cm high. Stems are more often prostrate, less often erect, branched, sometimes reddish, shaggy-fluffy from downward-pointing hairs.

The leaves are ovate, oblong-ovate or oblong-elliptic, sharp at the tip, saw-toothed along the edge.

The flowers are purple or lilac-pink, collected in multi-flowered spherical false whorls on hairy, rarely naked pedicels; the calyx is bell-shaped, often purple, hairy; the corolla is broad-tubular.

Fruit — cenobium: a fractional fruit consisting of four uniformly developed rounded, blunt at the tip, smooth nut-shaped single-seeded parts (eremes).

The plant blooms in June—October. The fruits ripen in August—October.
