New York police are investigating a burglary report by actress Famke Janssen, who said she found a children's book that didn't belong to her near her bed.

The New York Police Department say there was no sign of forced entry at Janssen's Manhattan penthouse, and the apartment was not in disarray.

It was not clear if anything was taken.

Police say the X-Men actress told officers that when she came home on Saturday she found a copy of The Lonely Doll on a shelf beside her bed.

The book, first published in 1957 by Dare Wright, is about a doll that wants to play with someone and is befriended by two teddy bears.

Janssen told authorities she is the only one with access to her penthouse.

The NYPD are currently investigating the incident as a burglary.

The Dutch-born actress plays telepath Jean Grey in the X-Men franchise. She also played a Bond girl in GoldenEye.
