Larry Page, born March 26, 1973 in East Lansing, Michigan, USA, is an American computer scientist and entrepreneur who co-founded Google, one of the most popular websites on the Internet, with Sergey Brin.

Larry Page, whose father was a computer science professor at Michigan State University, earned a computer engineering degree from the University of Michigan in 1995 and enrolled in Stanford’s doctoral program, where he met Brin. The idea of improving the ability to extract meaning from the massive amount of data accumulated on the Internet piqued their interest. They developed a new type of search engine technology from Page’s dorm room, leveraging Web users’ own ranking abilities by tracking each site’s “backing links” — that is, the number of other pages linked to them.

Larry Page Success Story

Larry Page and Brin raised about $1 million in outside funding for their search engine from investors, family, and friends. In 2001, Page stepped down as CEO to become president of products. Eric Schmidt, a technology executive, took over as CEO in his place. However, he and Brin remained deeply involved in the running of Google. By 2004, the search engine was used 200 million times per day. On August 19, 2004, Google Inc. went public, earning Page more than $3.8 billion in the process. Google purchased YouTube, the most popular Web site for user-submitted streaming videos, for $1.65 billion in stock in 2006, reflecting the company’s efforts to expand its services beyond Internet searches. Schmidt had moved to the position of executive chairman when Page resumed his duties as Google’s CEO in 2011.

In August 2015, Google was restructured as a subsidiary of the newly formed holding company Alphabet Inc., and Page was appointed CEO of Alphabet. Page left that position in December 2019, but remained on Alphabet’s board of directors……Read More
