It’s not hard to find Rajarani Thosai when you are at Tampines Round Market & Food Centre – simply search for the stall with a long queue, and right in the middle of the market. Rajarani Thosai offers a variety of Indian Thosai and Appam, with different variations and flavours including Butter, Egg, Masala and even Cereal.

One of the must-try dishes at Rajarani Thosai is, of course, their Thosai. Thosai is a type of South Indian Pancake made with a fermented batter of rice and lentils. We ordered the Masala Thosai (S$4), which is a Thosai that has Masala Potato filling in it.

The Thosai here is exactly how I like it, with a crispy edge and soft tender center. However, if left out for a while, the crispy edge would soften, which is to be expected as it was wrapped around the Masala sauce. The Masala Potato filling was generous and tasty, with the right amount of spice to please both spicy and non-spicy diners. I loved the consistency of the potato which was buttery and had chunks of potato in it.

The Masala Thosai is served with 3 sauces, Dhal, Coconut chutney and chili chutney.

The Chili Chutney and dhal definitely packed a punch, and for someone that has low spice tolerance level, I preferred the Coconut Chutney which was milder. I find it enjoyable that I could keep switching my sauces between every bite as all of the sauces tasted so different from each other.

The snaking queue is a testament to how good Rajarani Thosai’s food is, and I see myself joining the queue to have their Thosai again. Their Appam is highly recommended by a lot of people too, another reason for me to be back!
