    Appalachian Astilbe (Astilbe biternata)

    This is the only native Astilbe to the US.This dramatic shade plants has large, airy leaves, and large panicles of creamy white flowers. It would prefer to have moist soil, but is somewhat adaptable to average soil. Plants are dioecious, having male and female plants. Plant in morning sun or high, dappled shade. Try planting with coral bells, cherokee sedge, or eastern columbine.
    Blooms: Cream, 2-3 weeks, May-June
    Leaves: Bright green, up to 2’ long, deciduous, but nice yellow fall color

    Fauna: Great pollinator plant–lots of variety in pollinators
