Batman got a new writer over at DC Comics—writer for Flash and Nailbiter, Joshua Williamson, will be taking the reins of DC Comics’ marque title, Batman. For at least the past decade, Batman has been a powerhouse title in mainstream comics and their looking to continue that streak with Williamson. Pencils and inks will be done by Jorge Molina.
Sneak peak of a new Bat suit—Over on Twitter, Williamson gave fans a look at the new costume for the Batman. This one looks more like the gray fabric suit Ben Affleck wore in the Zack Snyder films, but the ‘80s era black and yellow Bat symbol is back! Also, the husky yellow utility belt is rocking like the super up fanny pack it should be (POUCHES!!!). Also… IS THAT A BLIMP ON THE GOTHAM SKYLINE ONCE AGAIN?!?! CBR.com, which can be hit or miss, has theorized that this may be a return to the international storylines of Grant Morrison’s Batman, Inc. Read more about that here.
Sneak peak at Batman’s newest villain—We also got a look at a new (and mysterious) villain: Abyss. Something about his design reminds me of a mix between ‘70s martial arts craze, ‘80s Shredder from TMNT, ‘90s horror film sickle, and maybe ‘10s Danganronpa bear—which apparently coming to Switch this year—from Nintendo (I think its the glowing X eyes).
New episode of Marvel’s What If? animated series—This week Marvel released the third episode of their latest Disney+ show What If? This one explores what might happen if “The World Lost Its Mightest Heroes.” It has a darker angle that the previous two episodes, which I like. While I liked the other episodes just fine, I’ve been hoping for more of a Twilight Zone twist to the story. Altering timelines just feels to me like it should have some unexpected consequences. If for no other reason, this helps to explain why the timeline we know became the dominate path. This episode goes more in that direction and I like it.
A Food Network MOVIE?!—Yep, you read that right. The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond herself, will star in Food Network’s first ever scripted movie to premier on Discovery+. It’s called “Candy Coated Christmas.” I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t going to end up watching it with my wife. Read more about it here.
What Subscribers (Greatest of Scotts!! Club) Can Look Forward To:
I’ve been neck deep this week in Neal Adams stuff and wow is that guy a great storyteller! I knew he was the best illustrator in the history of comics, but he just oozes interesting tales. Almost leads me to believe the two (artist/storyteller) have a strong correlation… Hmmm….
I’ve also got some excellent exclusive material from interviews with Walter Simonson and others. You DO NOT want to miss this stuff!

Here’s what I’m currently reading:
I’m digging into Megan Kate Nelson’s The Three-Cornered War this weekend and I can’t wait! This was a Pulitzer finalist in History and I’m a big fan of the author, so I know it’s going to be great.
I loved the kick-off of Batman ‘89 and I’m looking forward to reading this week’s Superman ‘78.
Tom King’s Batman run. I’ve just finished the “War of Jokes and Riddles” arc and am starting the Bat-Cat engagement storyline.
