Dyshidrotic eczema (also known at Pompholyx Eczema) is a type of eczema that usually occurs on the soles of your feet or the palms of your hands and creates blisters. These blisters are usually quite itchy and filled with fluid. Although they may only last between two-four weeks and are usually due to seasonal changes or can be impacted by stress.
The cause is still unknown like most skin conditions, but it has been linked to flare up in the spring season due to allergies.
Who is most likely to have Dyshidrotic eczema?
People who are highly stressed may have a higher chance of getting dyshidrotic eczema or from allergic reactions. It is also common for people whose feet or hands are consistently in water or are always moist.
Symptoms
- Small blisters on the toes, soles of feet, palms or side of fingers
- Blisters full of puss
- Extremely itchy
- Large blisters may appear
- May be hard to move fingers or stand on your feet
Treatments
For mild cases, an ointment or cream may be used. However for severe outbreaks contact your doctor, they may prescribe a topical steroid, injection or pill you have to take. It is also important to note this type of eczema can get infected quite easily as the blisters are open and weeping, so getting on top of it straight away will prevent this.
In the meantime, there are some simple treatments you can implement at home to ease the pain. Soaking your hands or feet in cold water that is filled with a natural oil for about 15 minutes will allow the oil to penetrate deep into the skin layers creating a protective layer on the skin. After pat the skin dry and apply your natural emollient cream on top. Depending on how severe you are, it is recommended to this at least two-four times a day.
