IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946

Guys! Guys! Guys!

So, I’ve been workin’ on preparing IL-2 1946 for the aforementioned online IL-2 square dance. I have some good news, and I have some bad news. The good news is, I’m really excited! The bad news is, well I’m gonna recommend that we dump HSFX in favor of the VP MEDIA MODPACK! That will require downloading said modpack, but it’s incredibly simplified as compared to most other options, and it’s incredibly easy to install! In fact, the major factor in my decision to switch is in the simplicity of the install procedure, that and the fact that I don’t feel the need to gather or install anything else, as the modpack feels very complete out of the box! Also, it’s the first modpack that looks and sounds incredible at almost zero cost to performance and / or stability!

VP MODPACK

I wouldn’t recommend it if I didn’t feel like it was worth it. And If y’all are still interested, let me know. I’m still workin’ on play testing our online mission packs, but if anyone here can acquire the modpack and get it running by tonight, I would be more than happy to run some test missions!

Download from either “Mirror1” or the torrent. Skip the patch and download the skinpack, but skip the DGEN skins, you won’t need 'em. Also, grab the DCG compatibility patch, we may need it if we plan to fire up a DCG campaign.

You lost me at “Mirror1”…

:stuck_out_tongue:I love the look of this pack, though.

Has anyone here gotten Il-2 1946 running in VR using a 3rd party application? I’d love to hear about it, if so, and poach your settings.

So, our first major snag comes in the very familiar and always frustrating “connection issues”. I’ve been workin’ on it all morning, and I’m not sure there’s anything else I can do. I’m unable to confirm that port 21000 is open using any online port checkers. Turning off Windows Firewall at least allows the port checker to get refused, but I need someone to attempt to join the server before I can make any determinations…

FYI, I’ve patched up via the 2 provided patches, so if you plan to join you may wanna do the same.

I know this is an old topic but did you ever get this resolved?

No. There may be an issue with the network I have setup here at home that prevents me from opening the required ports for hosting multi-player games. It’s been a while since I’ve tried, so I may troubleshoot again in the near future. In the meantime, BoX has been a ton of fun!

The online port checkers never find an open port for me when I test IL-2 either but I am able to host online games. I have helped a few people through the process and I am willing to try and help you if you want the help. The easiest way is on TeamSpeak but I have done it via email tutorials.

I don’t need any assistance, but thanks for the offer, it’s much appreciated. I’ve always had problems hosting games though, no matter the network, but I always “found a way”. My current network has a separate modem and switch, so I think the problem is more or less “complication”, if that makes sense. I’ll figure it out, I just need to spend more time with it.

Just bought 1946 on Steam for $10.
The lack of Pacific WWII Sims brought me back. Now to figure out how to program my sticks.

I got it several years ago on a Steam sale for future proofing. I still had the old standalone version installed, though. I have updated it to the latest TD “official” patch but no mods. I only fly it occasionally, so no point spending all that time.

I’m having to use an app to force which of my joysticks it sees. Hopefully once I get that sorted, I can program and go fly

yeah like a bit of IL2 46 as well…
