Overland Classifieds :: 2022 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4×4 Campervan

The immense popularity of the Mercedes Sprinter has made it somewhat divisive. There’s even a “one less Sprinter” movement. I don’t understand the hostility. After all, its popularity reflects the Sprinter’s reputation as a spacious, reliable, comfortable, easy-to-drive, well-equipped, and relatively economical home-on-wheels. The 4WD (technically AWD) variant is the crème of the crop and turns this vanlife icon into a bonafide overland rig. In stock form, the Sprinter 4×4 is good offroad, but it’s not great (unless you opt for Mercedes’ optional $7,800 Low and High Range 4×4 Package, which upgrades the van with a true 4WD system). Hence, it is an excellent option for gravel roads and backcountry camping rather than a vehicle suitable for navigating rugged, technical terrain. Fortunately, this can be addressed thanks to the vast array of aftermarket parts, accessories, and services designed to uprate the Sprinter for exploration. Chad DeRosa demonstrates the potential of a modified Sprinter 4×4 in this nail-biting video, Desert Overlanding. If you’d like a better idea of outfitting this van for travel, check out these epic builds from Mortons on the Move and Titan Vans. Today’s example, designed by Sandy Vans, has covered just 8,000 miles and showcases a long list of premium modifications and a fully-equipped camper interior.

From the Seller:

This has been the Sandy Vans show rig for the past four months, but now it’s time for this beauty to find its home! Opportunity to get your hands on a premium build with 8,000 miles on it from traveling to trade shows. This van is immaculate!”

2022 Mercedes Sprinter 4×4

The Sprinter is fitted with a 3.0-liter diesel that produces 188 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. A dependable and relatively frugal engine is matched with impressive all-terrain capability thanks to 4WD (technically AWD), low range, increased ground clearance, and intelligent traction control. It’s worth noting that go-anywhere capability can be vastly improved with aftermarket parts from companies such as Van Compass and ARB. Inside, the Sprinter is more luxurious than most commercial vans, with driver comforts that include:

  • Infotainment system with navigation, 10-inch
  • Powered and heated leather seats
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Climate control

Distinguishing Features

  • Starlink satellite internet
  • Lithium batteries, 400 amp-hours with 175 watts of solar
  • Freshwater 20-gallon tank
  • Fiamma F45 awning
  • Espar diesel heater
  • Sandy Vans roof rack with side ladder
  • Method wheels with BFGoodrich tires

This Mercedes Sprinter 4×4 Campervan is listed for $150,000 and is currently located in San Diego, California. Check the full vehicle specifications via the original Expedition Portal forum post here.
