What’s going on with Deadpool 3? And will fan-favorite actor Zazie Beetz, who portrayed Domino in Deadpool 2, return for the threequel? Beetz has previously been tight-lipped when it comes to whether she’s back, but on Sunday (June 11), she gave Decider the scoop about her involvement while at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of her upcoming limited series Full Circle.

The highly anticipated movie will see Hugh Jackman’s James “Logan” Howlett/Wolverine uniting with Ryan Reynolds’s mouthy Wade Wilson/Deadpool to fight a common enemy. The superhero comedy has reportedly begun filming for its 2024 release despite the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, which poses major concerns. Will Reynolds be able to keep from ad-libbing? Previously, he has famously improvised pretty much non-stop, which will not be possible without a writer on set.

Decider brought these concerns to Beetz while on the red carpet of the Max premiere. “Well I’m actually not in Deadpool 3, so I don’t know what they’re doing [about improvisation]. I’m assuming they’re probably taking a pause. […] I’m excited to watch it,” Beetz said.

Rumors of Beetz’s return to the franchise began in 2022 when a Twitter fan account reported that she was in talks to reprise her popular character, citing blogger Daniel Richtman.

Earlier that year, Beetz told ScreenRant, “I am crossing my fingers, hoping that Domino will be a part of this and if not, that’s also all good. But it’s just such a great crew, such a great team. I just love Deadpool. I love Domino so much. If it’s not this, maybe I’ll do my own Domino origins or something like that.”

Then, in March, the actor told Comicbook.com, “Unfortunately, I plead the fifth. […] I’m sorry,” when asked about her potential reprisal.

But it’s not all sour news – Beetz plays a strong-willed, queer detective in Steven Soderberg’s upcoming series Full Circle, which will premiere on July 13, 2023. The actor was tickled to be premiering the show at Tribeca, saying it felt like a “full circle” moment as her first professional film Applesauce screened at the festival in 2015.

When it comes to her kickass character, she explained, “Agent Harmony is one of the detectives in the show and she’s sort of caught in the middle between this affluent New York family and this crime syndicate group with these young Guyanese kids who come into the city and are roped into a bad situation.” Beetz said she is “ping-ponging” between the two groups throughout the series.

While talking about her initial draw to the project, she shared, “I felt really compelled by the nuance surrounding who’s considered to be good and who’s considered to be bad, and how our actions all have consequences, even if we think we’re not engaging or we’re not responsible for something – every choice we make does impact the people in their lives.”

Beetz added, “This show plays around a lot with who’s actually innocent and who is actually culpable and should take responsibility for their actions.” The series also stars Jharrel Jerome, Claire Danes, and Timothy Olyphant. The festival only screened the first two episodes of the series, but in a separate interview with Decider, Jerome teased that the series “turns up” towards the end.

Hopefully, Domino will turn up somewhere in the future of the MCU, too.
