Eugene was named after his maternal grandfather, four time Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winning playwright Eugene O’Neill. O’Neill died a few months after Eugene’s birth, he turned against his daughter Oona over her marriage to Charlie Chaplin, he never met his Chaplin grandchildren then numbering five.

While he had his greatest success with a dog by his side, Charlie Chaplin had a preference for cats…they appeared in many of his films.
His feeling on cats - According to his son Charles Jr, in his 1960 book “My father, Charlie Chaplin”

Charlie Chaplin, wife Oona, and their children Geraldine, Michael, Josephine, Victoria, Eugene, Jane and newborn Annette born December 1959. Two and half years later they would have their eighth and last child - a son Christopher born July 1962.

Gathered to celebrate arrival of the newest member to the Chaplin family - Jane Cecil born May 23rd 1957. Jane the sixth child of Charlie (then age 68) and Oona (age 32).
She was the 9th child for Charlie Chaplin - aside from his children with Oona, there was Norman Spencer (lived 3 days) with first wife Mildred and Charlie Jr & Sydney with second wife Lita Grey.

This would not be the end of the arrivals - in December 1959 they would welcome daughter Annette (Annie) & finally in July 1962, Charlie then 73, a son Christopher.
