Geraldine, Michael and Josephine Chaplin, the eldest children of Oona and Charlie Chaplin, in their first screen appearance for the opening scene of Charlie’s film, Limelight (1952).
Several other members of the Chaplin family star in this film, including both sons from an earlier marriage to Lita Grey, Charles Jr. and Sydney; his current wife, Oona, who stood in for Claire Bloom in one scene; and Charlie’s half-brother, Wheeler Dryden, also makes an appearance.
Although it is set in London, Limelight was entirely filmed in America and was the last film that Charlie made in the U.S. It was during the promotional tour in Europe in 1952 that he was denied re-entry in to the United States, following years of relentless accusations of being “anti-American” - despite never having obtained an American citizenship in his forty years of being in the country. He and his family eventually settled in Switzerland, where he lived until his death in 1977.
