JAN LENICA (1928-2001) POLSKE SURREALISTER. 1970.
37 7/8x26 7/8 inches.
Condition A-: minor staining in image.
Lenica was born in Poznan and studied in Warsaw. He quickly established himself as one of the top illustrators and poster designers in Poland before moving to Paris in 1963. In his later years he became more and more involved with animated films and stage design. One of the most powerful designers in his day, he generously used colors within broad outlines of images. Among his most iconic works are the extraordinary Wozzek (see Swann Modernist Poster Auction #1859, lot 75), and this cerebral image (an homage to Rene Magritte), for an exhibition of Polish surrealists.
